Obituary Delores Terry was born to the late James D. Terry and Pauline Barker-Benton-Terry in Cotton Plant, Arkansas on January 28, 1954. Delores affectionately known as “Lois” was the sixth child of eleven children. Delores was baptized in Jesus name at the Grace Apostolic Faith Church, under the leadership and guidance of the late Suffragan Bishop Cornelius Southern. She was a faithful member of the church serving as a member of Women’s choir, the director of the Junior Sunday School Christian Education Dept and a member of the finance team. She assisted in helping the Out Reach Auxiliary and the Communion Team; She was a member of the Senior Adults Living Together known as S.A.L.T. She was also a member of the Cotton Plant Club of Chicago. Delores attended elementary school and her freshmen year of high school in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. She attended John Marshall High School in her sophomore year, before leaving to attend Jones Commercial High School. She graduated with honors from Jones Commercial High School in 1972. Delores was employed with Swiss Re insurance company, formerly known as Industrial Risk and General Electric in October of 1978. She held various positions in the “Underwriting Department” until she retired in September of 2020, after serving 42 years with the company. Delores was an active member of the Illinois District Council and the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Inc., two Christian Organizations. She began to serve in the Illinois District Council’s Christian Education Auxiliary (IDCCEA) in 1984 as the assistant secretary under Dr. Rosa Sailes who was the president. She also served in the following positions, Secretary, Financial Secretary, an exceptional Treasurer and Vice-President under Dr. Barbara Payne. Dr. Payne appointed Delores as the Regional Treasurer for ICEA Region V in which she served exceptionally and faithfully for eight years. Delores enjoyed traveling with her family and friends to Spain, France, Italy, Mexico and cruised around the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas. Delores was preceded in death by her siblings, Zodie Mae Moore of St. Louis, MO, Verna Dean Benton-Jackson of Matteson, IL, James Gregory Terry and Michael Stanley Terry both of Chicago IL. Delores leaves to cherish her memories, her siblings Naomi Mitchell of Hartford CT, William Benton (Zorka), Willie Benton (Vera), Paulette Terry, Dudley “Jack” Terry, Pamela Spurlock (Arteil) and Elvis Terry (Kimberly) all of Chicago, IL, a special sister-in-law Cora Terry (James), brother-in-law Dale Jackson (Verna), two special great nieces Alaya Marshall and Jasmine Benton, Godchildren, Delores Terry-Sanders, Amethyst Shane-Bellamy and Adonya Triplett; Birthday Group/Special friends, Joanne Myrick, Betty Triplett, Argie Hollyfield, Everlene Hampton, Patricia Childs, Mandy Williams-Lilly and Colie Gills, a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and the entire Grace Apostolic Faith Church family.
