In Loving Memory Bertie Edward Newton Jr. Sunrise. Sunset August 6th 1984. March 17th 2024 Bertie Edward Newton Jr. Was better known as "Bert" or "Pops" he was born to the Union of Bertie Newton Sr. & Ruby Newton. Bertie was the only child born to this union. Bertie accepted Christ at an early age. He served at Many Churches throughout his years and settled down as a member of Word Made Flesh Ministries in Hammond Indiana where he & his Wife Rhonda were joined in marriage. Bertie was born and raised on 39th street but moved to the south Chicago community where he began to lay down his roots. As an active member of the community. He started his first baseball team for youth in the South Chicago community and became an active community board member of Scope community center. Bertie was very active with creating safe places for the youth to gather he helped start some of South Chicago's first block parties and he helped to establish many food pantries and so much more.
